My Favourite Apps
So I have had my iPhone for almost 2 weeks now, and the novelty is certainly not wearing off! I absolutley love being able to access email, the web, social networking sites, games, and cool apps, whenever I want.
During the flurry of excitement in the first few days, I downloaded a fair few apps, as I am sure most newbies do! Here is a summary of my fave's (so far!):
Productivity:
- Things - a thoroughly comprehensive, yet simple, task manager. I use this daily to capture tasks and ideas as they come to me, and then organise my day based on my various lists and projects. It is a fairly pricey app at £5.99 but it is well worth it. The old adage 'you get what you pay for' rings true here.
- Evernote - I have been using Evernote on my mac for some time now, and am delighted to now be able to capture text, images, and voice memo's, on my iPhone now too! This is a hard app to explain, but essentially Evernote allows you to capture 'stuff' wherever you are, almost like a digital memory. The app is free - so give it a whirl, and see what you think!
Social Networking:
- Tweetdeck - much like Evernote, I have been using Tweetdeck on my Mac for a while, and therefore it was my first choice to install on the iPhone, to allow me to tweet on the go. Tweetdeck has the added bonus of being able to view and update Facebook too. An incredibly feature rich app, you can add columns to track various hashtags you are interested in, and manage multiple tweet accounts, which is very handy! The interface is clean and simple - quite grown up compared to a lot of the competition, which seem to take on a rather cartoon like appearance. Tweetdeck is also free.
- Facebook - Mostly I use Tweetdeck, but this app is worth a mention as it is free, and pretty easy to use. I like the fact I can view my Fan Page that I set up for my business.
Photography:
- The Best Camera - shoot, edit, share. Simple! This fab little app allows you to really improve the images taken on your iPhone camera. You can apply filters to boost saturation, add contrast, convert to black and white, to name but a few. Another great feature is the ability to then share these images directly to Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, and thebestcamera.com - a funky new online community that allows you to contribute to a living, breathing gallery of iPhone photography from around the globe. The Best Camera app costs £1.79.
- CameraBag - another great little app to improve your photography on your iPhone. Gives the opportunity to add a variety of old skool style filters such as 'Helga', 'Instant', and 'Colourcross'. To be honest, I prefer The Best Camera, but this is worth a look, and I have used it a few times. CameraBag costs £1.19
Games:
- Doodle Jump - utterly addictive! Just buy it - it's only 59p!
- Pocket God - A really fun little app where you get to be an all powerful god, ruling over the primitive little islanders. This app has a really nice feel to it, and the makers update it quite frequently with new features and mini games. Good fun at 59p.
- Flight Control - a lovely simple but completely addictive game
You have to touch and guide your aircraft to their landing zones while avoiding mid air collisions - can get quite frantic! Quite a few airfields to play, and another brilliant game for just 59p.
These are just a few of my fave apps - let me know what your faves are
